What kind of material is Mineral Wool?

Recently, we see that many different insulation materials are used in homes. Not every insulation material can effectively insulate the house. From this perspective, it is necessary to use materials that provide effective insulation, such as rock wool, in certain parts of the house. If you are wondering what kind of material rock wool is, we have researched this material in depth and have written about it in this article.

There are different types of structures in many parts of our country. However, regardless of the type of structure, it must have insulation. From an insulation perspective, prefabricated house models generally use materials that provide effective insulation, such as rock wool, in the roof section. Rock wool is a mineral-based insulation material obtained by melting volcanic rocks such as basalt and dolomite at high temperatures and turning them into fibers. It provides sound, heat, and fire insulation.

In the production process of this material, basalt rock is melted at approximately 1400–1500 degrees. The molten magma is then transformed into fibers using high-speed disks or centrifuge machines. A special binder resin is applied to the fibers. This resin gives the material shape, flexibility, and water repellency. It is then pressed to the desired density and thickness, baked in an oven for curing. Afterwards, it is cut into sheets, mats, or panels and packaged.

Rock wool provides thermal insulation at a level close to EPS foam. Its open-cell structure makes its sound absorption very high. For this reason, it is generally used in the roof sections of buildings. It is ideal for studios, machinery production facilities, suspended ceilings, and lightweight steel structures. It is classified as non-flammable A1 material. In fact, it can maintain its form up to 1000 degrees. It does not emit smoke or toxic gases.

The fibers contain water-repellent chemicals but are open-cell, so they should be protected from prolonged contact with water. It is an ideal material for structures requiring fire safety and provides very effective sound insulation. In fact, the roof of a building can produce more noise than expected. In factories where these structures are produced, it is one of the most commonly used materials as roof filling material. We thought about what points should be considered in house insulation and have written about this topic in detail under the next heading.

What Are the Points to Consider in the Insulation of Prefabricated Houses?

Many houses produced in factories are used in many different parts of our country. However, these houses may not be very noticeable from the outside. However, prefabricated house price is quite affordable and produced suitable for our country's geography. Insulation is important for every structure. In fact, there are some points to pay attention to regarding insulation. These points are as follows:

Selection of quality materials

The most ideal insulation combination for a structure is using rock wool in the roof, EPS foam in the walls, and double-glazed PVC windows. However, any desired material can also be used. But these are the most ideal materials. This way, the indoor temperature is maintained longer, and the use of air conditioning and boilers decreases.

Insulation from all sides

Insulation should not only focus on sound or heat insulation but should provide overall insulation. This type of insulation includes sound, heat, and liquid insulation. When rock wool and double-glazed windows are used together, external noise is largely blocked. Rock wool roof filling maintains the structural integrity during a fire. EPS foam in walls, when applied correctly, is safe with fire barriers. Thanks to moisture, water, and heat insulation, building materials last longer.

Planning of the production process

The entire production process of these structures is planned in advance. This is very important for insulation because it involves selecting insulation materials and installing walls. Insulation materials are mounted inside the walls and roof. Additionally, planning the building's plumbing and electrical systems from start to finish is also important.

How Is the Bathroom of Prefabricated Houses Made?

The exterior of houses can be insulated using different materials. However, areas where water is heavily used, such as bathrooms, need internal insulation. Assuming the house is built on a plain concrete slab, the first step is to insulate the floor. Epoxy coatings are generally used for this purpose. After all, water can corrode any surface it contacts over time.

Sometimes, plumbing or drainage systems are installed on top of the epoxy floor. Insulation material can be placed over the plumbing system. EPS foam is commonly used for this purpose. Then, ceramic or PVC coverings are applied on top. Finally, joints are sealed. This completes the insulation and covering of the bathroom. You can also purchase and use one of these structures immediately.
